There is a handful of traditional rug hookers on Big Tancook Island. Sheila Rodenhiser is one of them. Sheila’s rugs can be seen in the gallery below and are available for sale.
The rugs are hooked with fleece and are washable. The average size of the rugs is 22″ x 30″. The price of most of these rugs is $125. (Stripe and Red Fish are $75 as they are slightly smaller in size.)

The first Tancook Island Open Hooking Day was a resounding success. While we had an inkling that we would have a good turnout, we were more than a little surprised and extremely pleased when more than 100 fiber artists spent April 28 at the Rec Centre rug hooking, knitting, quilting and even chair caning. Participants came from all over Nova Scotia and were joined by local residents with a shared interest in some form of fibre art. We are grateful to the Rec Centre volunteers who made the day possible and enjoyable. Thanks also to Rosa and Bonny who led an island walk with several of the participants. With the overwhelming success of this day of camaraderie and sharing, stay tuned for future events! Lucy and Hetty.
Nova Scotia High Speed Internet was on the island last week to do some tests. They now have High Speed Internet on Little and Big Tancook Island. and would like to know how many people would be interested in their service. Please fill in the survey in the link below.
