Obituary – Michael Lawrence Westhaver

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Michael Lawrence Westhaver, age 64, of Sims Settlement on October 18, 2021 surrounded by his loving wife and family. Mike was a son of Carman Westhaver, Caledonia and Phyllis Westhaver, Fox Point. He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Suzette (Cross); his sons, Michael Jr. (Colleen), Sims Settlement and Jamie (Sarah), Cyprus, Tex.; his wonderful grandchildren, Caillin, Caleb, Logan, Cameron and Hudson; sisters, Debbie McArthur (Edd), Brandon, Man. and Paula Barclay (Richard), Mahone Bay; brothers, Spencer (Mona) and Kevin (Cathy), both of Fox Point; sister-in-law, Kathy Pate (Gordon), Austin, Tex. and brother-in-law, Randy Cross, Dartmouth; “Daddy”, Floyd Jollimore, Fox Point; and lots of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Kenny (Sherwood Park, Alta.) and nephew, baby Adam Coolen. At the age of 16, Mike started his lifelong career in the fishing industry which included scalloping, long lining, gill netting and lobster fishing. This chosen path and love of the water enabled Mike to build strong friendships attributed to his kindness and easy going personality. One, in particular, was the special bond he shared with Hazen (Danny) Boutilier. Mike had a true passion for cards whether he was playing crib, 45’s, Texas holdem, poker or blackjack. He was well respected and known as a true gentleman to the game. The family would like to thank the staff at the Cancer and Radiation Units of the VG Site, QEII for their outstanding care and compassion. Also, special recognition to Lunenburg County Palliative Care (Melanie Spence and Dr. Caldeira), as well as, Lunenburg County VON. In keeping with Mike’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A family service and burial will be held at a later date. In memory of Mike, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Lunenburg County Palliative Care Program (Health Services Foundation of the South Shore, PO Box 492, Bridgewater, NS B4V 2X6 or online at, click “Ways to give”, Designated to Palliative Care Department). We will forever cherish our memories of Mike. We will miss his quick wit and dry sense of humor.
