Published: October 05, 2021
Earl Baker – Age 84, of Big Tancook Island, passed away on September 25, 2021 in South Shore Regional Hospital with Vincent and Shelly by his side. Born on Big Tancook Island, Earl was a son of the late Russell and Bertha Baker. He was a lobster fisherman for many years and didn’t fully retire from fishing until he was 79.
In his earlier days, he worked at the Island boat shop building boats. As well, he helped to build many of the houses on the Island. He was a wealth of knowledge and was often sought out for information regarding Island history. Others frequently turned to Earl for gardening tips. He was well-known for his gardening skills and very generously shared produce with many Island residents, as well as staff at businesses on the mainland that he frequented, especially the ladies.
He was quite a charmer. He loved to attend dances and would go every chance he could. As long as the music was to his taste, he was tearing up the dance floor. Earl will be remembered as a feisty man who was very firm in his beliefs.
All who knew him were aware that it was almost impossible to win an argument with him, but he was loved just the same.
Earl is survived by his son, Vincent and partner Shelly; his grandchildren, Joleigh and Owen; and his brother, Carroll. He was predeceased by his son, Justin; his wife, Debbie; his brother, Vincent; his sister, Merle; and his brother, Lloyd.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, October 8th at 12 p.m. in Tancook Baptist Cemetery, Tancook Island. Ferry will leave Chester at 10:20 returning at 1:30. In lieu of sending flowers, donations may be made to Tancook Baptist Cemetery Fund or BTIERA.
